Development Director, Major Gifts Officer or Fundraising Professional? As a traveling development officer, I've also heard the phrase "road warrior" to describe my position, though my business card contains a variation of the former above. In higher education advancement, we are all fundraisers, though, regardless of title. Or as Keith Barber would succinctly put it, we are advancement professionals, on the front lines securing a bright future for education and agriculture via charitable gifts. But whether we're in front of donors asking for leadership annual gifts, interacting at events, signing scholarship guidelines over ice cream on campus or strategically sending out annual fund mailings from the office, each of us is responsible for a specific piece in the development puzzle that is critical to the production of a healthy pipeline of supporters to our institutions.
