City that Wheat Built
Enjoy a historic trip along the Minneapolis Riverfront while riding a Segway scooter. The guided tour will provide an overview of the area’s history from 10,000 BC to the present. Historical sites will focus on "The City that Wheat Built,” and participants will learn about the flour milling industry that fueled the growth of Minneapolis, causing it to dominate world flour production for roughly a half-century and giving rise to the city’s reputation as "Mill City” across the nation and around the world. Please note: This tour will likely return to the Radisson Hotel closer to 6:00. This tour will happen light rain or shine, so come prepared. In case of severe weather, participants will need to join a different tour.
River Ecology: A Threatened Treasure
Slicing through the Twin Cities metropolitan area is the Mississippi River, a waterway that serves many purposes, including drinking water, commercial navigation, and storm water and wastewater discharge. It also unites numerous governmental, nonprofit, and cultural organizations. Board a river paddleboat and explore how these groups have built relationships to reclaim the Mighty River while respecting cultural differences and historical uses. The tour travels the river segment between the two downtowns, and includes the Mississippi’s only waterfall, several locks in the gorge, new 35W bridge, and views of historic Fort Snelling at its confluence with the Minnesota River. Please note: This tour will likely return to the Radisson closer to 6:15 or 6:30.
