Wow! What a great annual conference! Our gratitude goes out to Penn State for Creativity Starts Here. Kudos to all who participated, hosted, and/or lead sessions. Congratulations to those who took home more than you brought…creativity, ideas, buddies, etc. We’re off to a terrific beginning to the NAADA year.
MeeCee Baker, our Bickford Lecturer this year, asked, “What kind of NAADA do we want to be?” I propose the answer is found in what we do every day and at every level: stewardship. Our organizations exemplify this in all areas:
We steward students – asking them to leave the comforts of home and be dependent on us for 4, 5, even 6 years; in loco parentis
We steward a message – our constituents trust us to be true and honest – they believe what we tell them.
We steward relationships – our alumni and friends are connected to our institutions for a lifetime and we are charged with massaging those bonds.
We steward finances – money we didn’t earn; money we didn’t give; money given not to us or for us, but for causes greater than us and causes that will outlive us.
We steward the future – passing along wisdom, experience and direction within our professions.
