Beg, Borrow and Steal That Great Idea

Year after year, our membership survey results indicate that one of the best educational benefits of the conference is the Beg, Borrow and Steal (BB&S) session. In these sessions, we benchmark our own programs against the best of the best. At my first BB&S session, I learned of Kentucky’s Ag Roundup from Grace Gorrell and colleagues. Their energy and excitement of the annual alumni tailgate and reunion inspired me to work with our volunteers to implement many new ideas for our annual ag alumni tailgate. In another BB&S session years later, I learned more about Michigan State’s AutumnFest from Kathryn Reed. At their very gracious invitation, a group of our alumni visited AutumnFest to learn how they run this incredibly successful alumni and friends tailgate (and to celebrate our joint sesquicentennial at the time!). We came back to our campus with the goal to “be like AutumnFest” and implement live and silent auctions to benefit our student scholarship and internship endowments. With this innovation now in its eighth year, Ag Live raised just shy of $40,000 for these endowments and other alumni and student programming this past year. Thank you NAADA colleagues for always setting the bar high for us!
