NAADA Connections

From the President

Renee Keese

I hope everyone had safe travels home from Baton Rouge.  Our conference was amazing – Amanda Martin and her team at LSU did an outstanding job hosting us and showing true southern hospitality!  I hope the membership learned a lot, took home great ideas and had FUN while in Louisiana.  We had several firsts at the conference this year – the meeting app, called Social Link, provided daily updates and reminders, and allowed us to post and connect.  We gathered survey data using our phones at the end of each day, while the sessions were still fresh on your mind.  And of course, we had our first GIVE DAY!  A total of $2502 was donated - we even had non-attendees contribute!  It’s not too late – if you forgot because you were too busy, you can still donate over the summer.  Those funds will be used for our conference next year, and that planning has already begun!  One example of using funds – the Jane Longley-Cook Fellowship awards come from the endowment and helped sponsor two volunteers to attend the conference this year!

Congratulations to all our award winners – from Publications & Projects, to PeliCAN awards, and our Individual Awards, there were a lot of surprises and we were able to recognize many outstanding people.  Award winners are posted on the NAADA website where you can view details.  The other folks deserving recognition are the out-going Board members from 2018-2019: Adam Cahill, Haley Cook, Christy Chiarelli, Lindsey Kelly, Lindsey Fussell and Kevin Huesman.  We sincerely thank you for your service to NAADA.

Our newly elected Track Reps to fulfill the one-year vacancies are as follows: Danica Kirkpatrick as Alumni Track Rep, Henry Herbert as Student Professional Track Rep and Kyle Bymaster for the Development Track.  We look forward to having these folks join the NAADA Board!  Board orientation is scheduled for next month and we will be meeting face-to-face in early September, to begin our work to support you - the membership.

There is still time to volunteer – watch for the volunteer survey coming soon to your inbox.  We would love to have new people joining committees.  Anyone who volunteers knows you get more out of something when you participate, and NAADA committees give you the opportunity to work with colleagues across the US while supporting the organization.  Consider giving a little of your time and talents to NAADA.

Enjoy the summer – we’re heading into the ‘dog days’ and I hope everyone takes time off to spend with family or friends and recharge their batteries. Till next time….
