NAADA Connections

From the President

Renee Keese

Weathering the storm – whether it’s truly a weather event, as in a hurricane, or a storm of activities on your campus, it brings stress and difficulties.  The Carolinas and Virginia all weathered a major hurricane this month – and there is now a long road to recovery for many people.  How we react, in preparing before a major event, and then providing aid after, impact not only us but also those around us.  The agricultural community is coming together in NC – there is loss of property, livestock, and crops.  North and South Carolina are headed down a long road of recovery.  We as an association can have hiccups as well.   We were surprised by Jennifer Shike’s departure from our NAADA Board as Vice President, but also excited for her as she assumes her new role with PORK Magazine.  This left us in charted territory; we reviewed bylaws, consulted executive management for interpretation and came to the best conclusion – a special election to fill this nearly full two-year term of Vice President.  If you have questions with this process please don’t hesitate to contact me or Katie Wallstein. As with any election, nominations can be made from the floor (in this case written-in), so if you have a suggestion let us know.  Ballots will be sent to the campus contacts by October 4th.  We appreciate Pat Whittington being willing to step up and be nominated for this position a little earlier than expected.  Pat brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Board.

How does NAADA come together and support each other?  Many of you reached out to those of us in the Carolinas to inquire as to our welfare.  This got me thinking - have you reached out to your Buddy since the conference?  Those connections and support are also important, because the network is what NAADA is all about.  Have you volunteered for a NAADA committee?  There’s still time and we’d love to have your expertise, get you involved and strengthen those connections.  Please check with your campus contact to be sure your membership dues are paid.  And mark your calendars now for June 10-13, 2019, the NAADA Annual Conference in Baton Rouge, LA.  This is always the highlight of the NAADA year!

Looking forward to clear sailing ahead,

Renee Keese
