Farewell and Notice of Special Election https://www.naada.org/news/417066/ https://www.naada.org/news/417066/ Dear NAADA friends,

Jennifer ShikeOne of the greatest privileges of my life has been to know you and serve this organization since the first conference I attended. I had no idea what was in store when Jillian Stevenson pulled me aside to ask me to consider serving as the track chair for communications. Since that day, my passion for NAADA has grown exponentially.

For me, the best part of NAADA is being part of a bigger group of people who put others before themselves. I truly believe that my NAADA peers want me to succeed in life and have encouraged me, provided solid advice, challenged me, and graciously shared their ideas with me in an effort to help me improve and to help the University of Illinois improve as well. That’s a pretty special organization and an even more amazing group of people.

On September 12, I will be starting a new adventure in life as the Editor and Brand Leader of Farm Journal Media’s PORK Magazine. I was not looking for this opportunity, but it found me and I couldn’t pass it up. I will be working from a home office and will be traveling throughout the country representing the PORK brand. Eighteen years after my college graduation, I’m chasing my dream to become the editor of a livestock publication and get back into animal agriculture.

For those who know me well, you know that leaving my role in NAADA as vice president has been a hard one. I can’t wait to see what’s next for NAADA as an organization under Renee’s leadership. I am grateful that you accepted me with open arms and I look forward to staying in touch with my NAADA friends. You guys are the best.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Shike

Notice of Special Election

Due to Jennifer’s departure, NAADA will hold a special election via electronic vote for the position of Vice President. In accordance with the Bylaws, this notice is being sent 30 days in advance of the special election. The Executive Committee has nominated Pat Whittington, The Ohio State University, to fulfill the two-year term.
An electronic ballot will be sent to the main contact of each member institution on October 5th.

Pat WhittingtonDr. Pat Whittington

Dr. Pat Whittington was born and raised in Sabina, Ohio. He graduated from East Clinton High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics from The Ohio State University. Pat also obtained teacher certifications in biology, chemistry, and physics from Baldwin Wallace University and went on to teach those subjects at three different high schools. Outside of the classroom, he was a high school girls’ basketball coach at several schools and a coach for a traveling women's basketball team in Central Ohio.
Pat went on to earn two master's degrees - one in Education Administration and the other in Career and Technical Education, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration, from the University of Idaho. These degrees led Pat to serve in various roles throughout the country including the Assistant State Director for Small Business Development for the State of Washington and later on the Associate Dean's staff at Penn State University.

Currently, Pat is the Assistant Dean for Student Development in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences at The Ohio State University. In his current position at OSU he serves as the Director of Scholarships and Student Financial Aid, Honors, Undergraduate Research and Career Services.  Through his current role as Assistant Dean, Pat has served as an administrator for the OABA Educational Trust for students, not only for The Ohio State University, but also those who have received scholarships at Ohio State ATI, Central State University, Clark State Community College and Wilmington College.

During his tenure at Ohio State, Pat has been honored with the Distinguished Service Award from the National Agricultural Alumni and Development Association, with the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Idaho, the Outstanding Programing Award from the Ohio State University Office of Resident Life for the work he does with students living in the residence halls who have financial challenges, and just recently the Ohio AgriBusiness Association Educational Trust Honoree.

As an active participant and member of NAADA, Dr. Whittington first presented at the 2004 NAADA National Conference hosted by The Ohio State University. He has attended every conference since 2009 serving as a Board Member and Track Representative from 2009 to 2012, serving as the Secretary for the NAADA Board from 2011 to 2015, and then serving as the National Conference Chair in 2017, hosted by The Ohio State University.

Outside of the Dean's Office, Pat serves as an advisor for Delta Theta Sigma Agricultural Fraternity, Romophos (Sophomore Class Honorary at Ohio State, and Ohio Stater’s Inc. (Student Service Organization committed to enhancing the university through projects.
